Here at Siapin Horticulture we sometimes have to navigate many technical details when designing a landscape project take for example this job at Western Asset Plaza in Los Angeles where we had to blow in "lightweight soil" to reduce the weight load on the planters because underneath is a parking structure. We also kept in mind that though we have had plenty of rain here in So Cal we are still in drought mode. Siapin Horticulture we believe urban areas are one of the best places for better management of rainwater management. Loaded with impenetrable surfaces, such as car parks, median strips, islands, etc., commercial landscapes become a motorway for deposited pollutants that drain off the ground and bombard surrounding soils with contaminants. These pollutants, such as heavy metals, hydrocarbons, sediments, and even waste, pollute our flows and streams, making them the third largest source of pollution for lakes and the primary source of estuaries. By implementing a bio-genetics system, you can filter these pollutants and delay the drainage of the rainwater by reducing and improving the discharge quality naturally and aesthetically. We installed all of those at the parking area across the street, surrounding the parking spots. We also worked on the walking area and added on decomposed walkways. Parking in this area and walking when you need a breather is now much more pleasant. The lack of water is a large problem here in California due to its severe drought causing the agriculture to diminish. To prevent this from happening, bioswales can tribute to a positive aspect of the environment. It is enjoyable for the workers who work at 2600 to experience our growth in making nature flourish.
